Badges vs. Achievements

Badges are associated with activities that can be accumulated throughout the day. Examples include steps, active time, workout distance, glasses of water consumed, etc. Badges are most commonly used in step and activity-based challenges. Badges are also associated with landmarks that may appear along a virtual journey and video workouts. There are many ways for participants to be awarded badges; they can be:

  • Triggered automatically when their fitness tracker indicates they have reached the goal for the badge
  • Triggered automatically when a user manually enters an activity that indicates they have reached the goal for the badge.
  • Awarded manually by administrators.

Achievements are typically associated with discrete actions that are usually performed at least once during the day. When applied to our app, achievements are a way to foster good habits and are used on our 360º Wellbeing challenges. They can only be awarded through manual entry by the participant or by the administrator.
