Leaderboard locking

When running a challenge, administrators have the option to lock results at the end of a challenge. Leaderboard locking ensures that no further changes to leaderboards are allowed after a certain date. This allows organizers to announce the winners of an event with the certainty no further changes to leaderboards are possible.

Note: Leaderboard locking is typically configured up-front during the setup and configuration phase of an event and communicated to participants so they are aware of the last date they are able to sync or add their data.

Here’s what you need to know about this feature:

  1. Event Start Date:
    1. Participants can connect their devices before the challenge starts, but only activities recorded from the official start date will count toward the challenge.
  2. Event End Date:
    1. All steps and activities logged until the end of the final day will count.
    2. Data syncing doesn’t always happen in real time, and manual entries (when allowed) are often added the following day.
  3. Data Syncing and Filtering:
    1. When steps or activities are synced after the challenge end date, we look at the date and time the activities took place to determine whether they are valid or not.
    2. If valid data from the challenge period is synced or entered manually after the challenge ends, the leaderboard will update accordingly (unless leaderboards are locked).
    3. We always look at the local time to the user to determine validity of a user.
  4. When to Lock Results:
    1. To ensure fairness and allow for delayed syncing or manual entries, it’s best not to lock the results immediately after the challenge ends.
    2. Typical advice is to wait 2-3 days after the challenge concludes before locking the results.
    3. You can see the current lock status on the admin dashboard. Winners and final results of the event should not be announced until after the dashboard confirms that the leaderboards are locked.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure an accurate and fair outcome for your challenge.
